Recently I was traveling and fighting the car against a fierce north wind. The car wanted to swerve and veer towards the ditch against the wind, but with both hands on the wheel, I was able to keep the car where it needed to be. Life is a lot like that strong north wind. It will try to move and sway us from where we should be with God in our lives, but if we stay grounded in our faith, it can't move us. How do we stay grounded in our faith? The Bible tells gives us many examples of how we can stay close to God and not be moved by the world.
The high winds were causing the trees to flail wildly and the flags were fully open. I thought about the roots of the trees and that these roots keep them safe through storms and high winds. The flag poles are set deep in concrete to keep them standing tall. It is the same with us, as trials and toubles come our way. If our faith in God and His Son Jesus Christ stays strong, then we also will stand tall and firm. I often think of the old hym, I Shall Not Be Moved. There is much truth in the words of this old song. Not matter what the world throws at us, if our faith is strong, we will not be moved.
Hebrews 11:1- Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Faith is knowing that we have a loving and merciful Heavenly Father. His love for us is great and if we keep ourselves close to Him, He will guide and care for us. He will keep us grounded when times of trouble abound. There are many ways that we can stay close enough to God to stay grounded in faith.
Hebrews 1:14- Are they not all ministering spirits sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation? The angels help guide us through our daily life as Christians and heirs to the Kingdom of God.
John 16:13- Howbeit that he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself, but whosoever he shall hear, that shall he speak, and he will show you things to come. The Holy Spirit was sent here to help us. He is yet another way that God helps to guide us though this life.
Matthew 11:29 - Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me, for I am meek and lowly in heart, and ye shall find rest unto your souls. Jesus was God's greatest gift and through Him, our faith will be strong. He carries our troubles on His strong shoulders if we will take them to Him. His love and compassion will be the controling force that keeps us grounded.
Psalm 62:6 - He is my rock and my salvation: He is my defence; I shall not be moved. There's that phrase again, and this time it's straight from the Bible. Keeping our lives in sync with God will keep us on the path that we need to stay on. Through prayer and reading God's Holy words, we will stand firm and grounded in our faith.
